Stay tuned...
A new blog is in the works! I'm learning how to create and navigate the new blog before publishing. We are also working on a new website for Patton's business, Artwear Design. In the meantime, if you or anyone you know needs screen printing services, feel free to email or call (paborland1@aol.com or 413-8982) All you need is an idea and they'll do the work. Artwear Design is located in Cahaba Heights.
Our world in a nutshell...
We've been married 6 weeks.
Traveled to the beach, lake, and Jackson.
Enjoyed Easter with family.
Celebrated Patton's birthday with a housewarming/30th birthday party!
Celebrated my birthday with a yummy dinner at Hot & Hot Fish Club.
Nuturing Lucky, the cat, back to good health. He's definitely used up a few of his lives. The garage door should have killed him and almost did, but he survived!
Our house is
We've also taken up gardening. My dad and granddad have always been gardeners (as long as I can remember) and my grandmother is a "master gardener." So I have a lot of memories, inspiration, and some experience. A garden is hard work, but even harder when you're working with fill dirt from a newly created yard. Don't expect much this season. The goal= to turn a rock garden into nourished soil that will grow something. We're shocked by the growth even in the past week! More to come on the new blog and what's a blog without pictures! Patton gifted me a Canon T3i for my birthday! We are excited to learn how to use it in the coming weeks! More on this soon!

Igettomarrymybestfriend in 6 Saturdays (after today)! That's 42 days!!!
The house has come a long way over the past 7 weeks. A lot of people worked in a few days installing wires, pipes, and duct work and it passed inspection... big hurdle! yay! We have walls now and tile laid, hardwood installed, doors that lock, paint on the walls, and as of yesterday running water (well, temporary, but it's getting close to the real thing). It looks like a house now and it's easy to imagine where we'll cook, do laundry, watch TV, sleep, have quiet time, etc. Our favorite room already is the sunroom. We plan for it to be a highly functional area with an area to gather around the table and a sitting area to visit or rest. Its large windows can be opened on pretty spring or fall days. So if you drive by (not that anyone drives down our street) you may see us having morning coffee, reading, or sharing a meal.
Words cannot explain what has happened in our lives the past 7 weeks. It has definitely been a whirlwind, but so fun! Pictures below may show the chaos we've been experiencing lately. I don't have any pre-sheetrock pictures, so this is where we'll start. This is the day the framing, insulation, and wiring were covered up with sheetrock.

Take note of the guy on the stilts in the background. This was fascinating to me. He scooted around on those things like it was normal to be 2 feet off the ground. I guess when hanging sheetrock it is! Walking up and down the stairs was most impressive. He didn't even pause before walking down a flight of stairs. I really wanted a better picture of this but didn't want to freak him out that I was trying to take his picture. He didn't speak English.
Ta-da... we have walls!
Sheetrock is mudded and ready to be sanded.
Stacks of tile ready to be installed in the bathrooms.
Tiling the bathroom
Paint team ready to paint. My dad came two back to back weeks to paint for 8 days! This was a huge help! Thanks Dad! Painting is a really long process with new walls, trim, doors, etc. Lots of prepping before putting paint on the walls.
Our mess: lamps, ladders, and large heater to keep warm. Of course the week after we finished painting it's in the 60s, sunny, and beautiful!
Enjoying the snow for a minute on a painting break
Cleaned up and ready for hardwood floors
Finished product for now. Kitchen cabinets are going in next week!
One of our many late night Home Depot runs. That's my fiance', the general contractor!

91 days is the countdown til our wedding! We are looking forward to the day, but the true excitement comes thinking about after 'the big day' when I get to spend the rest of my life with my best friend. A lot has to happen in these 91 days. Not only are we planning a wedding, but we're building a house! Lord willing, it will be finished livable by April! It has been in the "works" since before I met Patton, and now we're kicking into high gear to have a home by the time we're wed. The outside is complete, so now it's time to make something out of all of the wood framing in the inside. This week Patton will be meeting with the electrician, plumber, sheetrock guy, HVAC guy, etc. But I'm working on thinking through what it will look like after those things are complete!
This is the wall color of the interior {revere pewter}. This is not our home. Although it could be with the 'B' pillows :)
